HAZMAT TRAINING: Each member of Norfolk Oil Transit’s management team has taken a 40 hour HazMat training program. Although not required by law (NOT does not store any hazardous materials) it was deemed beneficial as an overall training program.
TRAINING: All personnel participate in monthly safety meetings. During these meetings specific safety and operational practices are discussed. Outside representatives such as the U.S. Coast Guard and local Fire Departments are invited to present topics related to safety and environmental issues.
DRILLS: Spill containment exercises are conducted semi-annually as well unannounced emergency response drills.
MANUALS: Each employee has their own manual containing: Company Policies, Safety Procedures, SOP’s and BMP’s.
MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS (MSDS)
This manual is available to all employees and is located in several locations throughout the terminal.
SOP’s: Standard Operating Procedures provide instructions on the proper handling and operational guidelines for each product stored or transferred. Regular reviews and BMP’s (Best Management Practice) plans are applied to maximize both safety and product integrity.
